Language-based research (representational research) weakens qualitative research, since this "logic of representation" prevents the study of non-representational data.

The post-qualitative researcher is aware of the construction of the data, which are never morally or ethically neutral. In post-qualitative research, the evidence is the data (a process constructed by the interpretative practices of the researcher), which is based on how the body-mind (bodymind) opens up new possibilities (experiences) of understanding in the material and emergent practices between agents (human and non-human). To this end, the construction of data is not based on the representation of verbal discourse, but pursues the description of experiences that integrates the entanglement (entanglement) of the discourse with the material in the event itself.

Within the post-qualitative analysis strategies, several approaches can be distinguished:

A new analysis called "thinking with theory" (Jackson & Mazzei, 2012; Lenz Taguchi, 2012). Its purpose is "to identify the relationships and affections that compose sets of bodies, things and social formations in a particular event, as well as to evaluate the capacities that emerge from this set" (Fox & Alldred, 2017, pp. 171- 172); and its definition "a diffractive reading that diffuses thought in unpredictable patterns producing different knowledge" (Mazzei, 2014, p. 742).

An analysis based on the affect theory (Massumi (2002) and Bennett (2010)). It consists of thinking with the concepts assemblage, affect. Lo nuevo en el affect theory is the reconceptualization of the interaction between human and non-human agents. The concepts used are the following: bodyminds (analysis of movement and contact intensity), becoming/undoing (es emergente, impredecible, no esperado), multiplicity (no es única, es diversa y heterogénea), vibrant matter (the relation of the human to the non-human (affects and is affected)). It is a non-representational ontology (being) and epistemology (knowing).

La affect theory distinguishes between major inquiry (representacional) y minor inquiry (non-representation). The "minor inquiry" approach to literacy assumes a new conceptual and methodological perspective. This new perspective expounded by Manning and Massumi (2014) impinges on how theoretical concepts are used in the researcher's own direct experience in the field.

The key concepts of post-qualitative analysis are:

Agential realism (agential realism): theory developed by Karen Barad (2007), close to gender studies, Latour's actor-network theory (1996) and other theories. According to agential realism, the world is composed of phenomena, which are ontologically inseparable from organisms. Human beings are part of the phenomena/events we are trying to understand, and the phenomenon is not prior to, nor is it inseparable from, those who perform the analysis, and therefore agency is the capacity to be, to act that people, living beings in general, objects and even the particles that configure us all have.

Events (phenomena): phenomena/events are differential models of materiality (diffraction models), which are generated from complex agential intra-actions of multiple material discursive practices, or of bodily production systems. They are understood as a tangle of living beings, objects, spaces, times and materials, which are constantly reconfigured, interwoven, related and rearticulated from their own intra-actions and those produced with other phenomena.

Discursive practices (discursive practices): according to Foucault, discursive practices are the local socio-historical material conditions that represent and delimit the knowledge practices of the disciplines, such as speaking, writing, thinking, calculating, measuring, filtering or concentrating They produce, not only describe, the subjects and objects of knowledge practices. The conditions to which Foucault refers are immanent and historical rather than transcendental or phenomenological. Discursive practices are material conditions for the creation of meaning, not linguistic acts. Meaning is a posthumanist construction (Barad, 2007, p. 335).

Intra-actions (intra-action): constitution of intertwined agency. Individual agencyings do not exist, so that they are distinct only in relational terms, but not in absolute terms (as in interaction). Intra-action blurs the boundaries between knowing and being, so that both practices developed by an agency cannot be isolated from each other, but are mutually implicated and constitutive. Intra-action refers to non-arbitrary and non-deterministic causal facts, through which matter-in-the-process-of-becoming is iteratively involved in its continuous differential materialization.

System / method (apparatus): a concept similar to Foucault's concept of discursive practice. Apparatuses or systems are particular physical arrangements that give meaning to certain concepts and exclude others. They are the local physical conditions that make possible and limit knowledge practices, such as conceptualizing and measuring. 'Concepts' and 'things' have no boundaries, properties or meanings beyond their mutual intra-action. The construction of meaning is material, so that discourse is sustained through material practices, or non-discursive practices determine discursive practices. Apparatuses are productive of (and part of) the phenomena produced.

Diffractive ReadingDiffractive reading of texts consists in trying to read texts through, with, and in relation to each other in order to construct a process of thinking with data and theory. A reading of multiple readings that are much richer than a simple interpretation generated from a reductive process, which begins with codification and returns to experience. A diffractive analysis is not a reduction of data using a series of concepts, but adopts a rhizomatic (rather than hierarchical and linear) form that leads to different directions and keeps analysis and knowledge production in motion. Diffractive reading can be done following different theoretical perspectives of analysis: rhizomatic, deconstructive, affective, etc.

Rhizomatic analysis involves asking different kinds of questions and engaging in different ways of thinking about events. This way of thinking can be described as moving from the identification of what is present or contained within an interaction that is analyzed as a process, which generates difference, and involves moving from a problem of representation to a problem of space and movement. It does not ask about the meanings of written texts or images, but about the affects that are produced in the intra-actions between those texts or images and other agency, in the development of an event, and seeks to unveil the continuous creation of affects in daily life. It differs from representational analysis in that it is based on the assumption that texts mean or represent that which is not observed, heard, etc., so that the researcher interprets to produce meanings based on four criteria: identity, similarity, analogy and opposition; whereas rhizomatic analysis shifts attention from meaning to the intra-actions between agents (human and non-human). The product obtained is communicative or non-interpretative information.

Ethics: is defined in terms of responsibility. Responsibility does not define the relationship between two (human or non-human), but our responsibility is the otherness of the Other (that the Other exists ontologically and epistemologically). It is the essential, primary and fundamental mode of subjectivity and not a complement to a preceding existential basis. Responsibility must be conceived in terms of what we consider matter and what is excluded from materiality. Knowledge implies responsibility.

The seminar, organized by the LITERACIES research group, was open and attended by members of the MATILDA R+D+i research team (PID2019-104557GB-I00).

[This entry is an archive of the seminar organized by the LITERACIES group within the R+D+i MATILDA project, which took place on February 17, 2021] Delivered by Eduardo García-Jiménez and Fernando Guzmán-Simón in order to show the analysis of post-qualitative data.
