Literacy for a social change: an approach from the new literacy studies

Publicado el libro Literacy for a social change: an approach from the new literacy studies.Edited by Eduardo García-Jiménez and Fernando Guzmán-Simón, available at Octaedro.

This book proposes an approach to literacy from the paradigm of New Literacy Studies, which brings us closer to the inherent complexity of the literacy process in childhood through various perspectives that are "invisible" to a large part of our society. These literacies refer to multimodal and sensory elements, and not just to alphabetic writing.

This monograph has allowed us to become involved in a school and social community, approaching it from the theory of the new mobility. This methodology, based on the concept of the ethnographic walk, recognizes neighborhoods as literacy environments and focuses on describing the hidden meaning of local geographical landmarks in depth. The book also addresses the activation of the literacy reservoirs of students, their families, and their community in both their first and other languages; and their trans linguistic and transcultural nature and the role of transference in these processes. Lastly, the research has revolved around the reflection on the orientation needs of children in the transition from Early Childhood Education to Primary Education, inaugurating a little-explored line of research in the school environment. The work concludes with the study of the role of information and communication technologies from the New Literacy Studies, while analyzing the relationship that children have with literacy and ICT in areas with social transformation needs.
